We want you to have the best possible chance of passing your driving test. We get a lot of questions about how to increase the chances of passing.
One question which is asked frequently is when is the best time to sit my test?
We will answer this in detail but first it is important to know the variations to this question. There is the question of which day, which time, and which time of year.
We will answer all of these questions in this article to give you the greatest chance of passing your test.
Which day is best to sit my test?
The answer to this will be similar no matter where you are sitting your driving test.
In our opinion the days to avoid are the weekends and public holidays. However, this can depend on the person. We will get into this later.
Having your test on the weekends or public holidays will mean the roads being more busy. When the roads are busy it creates a lot more possible hazards.
Quieter roads are not as hazardous and allow for more concentration on the roads and your own actions.
The advantage of busier roads is you will likely drive less distance. You will also likely be driving at slower speeds which will give you more reaction time.
This is why it depends on the driver. If you get stressed with heavy traffic then you are better to have your test on weekdays. If you prefer to have more time to make decisions then weekends or holidays are better for you.
One other thing to take into account is the cost of your test.
If you book weekends, bank holidays or evenings, there is a £13 increase in price. Evenings are classed as any day, after 4:30 pm.
Which time is best to sit my test?
In our opinion the best time to sit your test is in the morning. Our main reason for this is that you wont have a long time to wait for your test. If your test is later in the day then you will have all day to overthink your test. We think it is better to get it over and done with as soon as possible in the day.
You may get caught up in school times slightly so make sure to watch out for 20 mile an hour zones.
If you are not a morning person then it may be better to book for later on in the day. Just remember evening tests (from 4:30 pm) on weekdays are £13 more expensive.
We would also recommend that you book your test when there is daylight. There is nothing wrong with having it in the dark but your vision is better in daylight.
What time of year should I sit my test?
We would recommend booking your test as soon as you feel ready for it.
But if you are planning what time of year to be ready then we would say to aim for summer.
There are obvious reasons for this with the biggest one being the roads should be drier(not necessarily when it comes to the UK). The roads wont have ice or snow.
Don’t worry too much about the time of year as it is not easy to predict when you will be ready for your practical test.
Is it really important when I sit my test?
Although we have given some advice on when you should sit your test, we must make it clear that it is not something to overthink.
It will not make a considerable difference to your chance of passing. If you have the choice then try to get a test that is the best possible time for you but don’t think that it wont go well if you get a bad time.
You may not have much choice in time if you are using your driving instructors vehicle to sit the test. You may need to fit in with their schedule.
